Wow, what an eventful week! Instagram is ramping up its features to allow you to get shareable links to your Stories. Facebook’s “Moments” seems to be in the past. The founding principle of Snapchat may be being fazed out sooner rather than later. And TikTok? Um … you’ll just have to wait and see.

1. Instagram Adds Option to Link to Instagram Stories, Expands Stories Promote Tool

Have the urge to share your Instagram Stories on other social platforms? Your website? Your email newsletter? Instagram appears to be providing a method to let you do that very thing. Users have the capability to share a direct link back to a Story. This is a total game changer for increasing Stories awareness and engagement for your personal brand or business.

Ah, the days when Snapchat was ephemeral. That’s the principle the multimedia messaging app was founded on, right? Well, Snapchat is reportedly entertaining the idea that public snaps would be permanently viewable when publicly submitted to “Our Stories.” Which kind of defeats the purpose …

4. It’s time to pay serious attention to TikTok

If when you think of TikTok, you just think “cringy lip-syncing app,” you might need to take a closer look. There are actually quite a few similarities to Vine (RIP). Music and other sound clips serve as the backdrop for act-out memes which are continually reconfigured and remixed by the platforms users. There is a lot of room for creative expression, making it one of the most-used social apps by Gen Z users … and not one to overlook.

5. Facebook plans new products as Instagram Stories hits 500M users/day

Half of Instagram’s 1 billion users now utilize Stories daily. Due to the success of Stories, Facebook plans to implement new products this year. Instagram commerce and shopping will get new features, WhatsApp payments will expand to more countries, and Stories will gain new private sharing options. What’s next?
