#MMSocialReport April 19, 2019

Tune in to this week’s roundup — and the last of this semester — to see what Twitter is doing to improve its platform safety, how Facebook may be mixing Stories and News Feed, why Twittr is performing better than Twitter, how Instagram is replacing word-of-mouth, and even more Game of Thrones content, because you haven’t seen enough of it already.

1. Twitter Will Test Option to Hide Replies, Outlines Improvements in Platform Safety

by @adhutchinson  via @socialmedia2day

Twitter is ramping up its security measures. The social networking app will soon allow its users to hide tweet replies. Any user would have the capability to hide any reply they want. This option is part of Twitter’s continual efforts to make improvements to on-platform discussion and prevent abusive language.

2. Facebook toys with mixing Stories and News Feed into one swipe-able carousel

by @HillaryGrigonis via @DigitalTrends

Getting tired of scrolling on Facebook? Well, the social networking site is playing with the idea of mixing Stories and News Feed into one swipeable carousel. Once you tap on a single post, the feed morphs into a full-screen format. Users can swipe left (like the current format for watching Stories) to navigate.

3. Twttr Is Already Proving More Popular Than Twitter Itself

by Geoff Desreumaux via @WeRSM

The experimental app Twttr allows for regular users of Twitter to test new features before any major changes are made to the main app. Beta testers appear to be liking Twttr over Twitter itself, though. If you want to see what all the excitement is about you can apply to join the program. The only catch is you’ll be expected to use it as your primary Twitter app, and it’s exclusively available on iOS.

4. For some Small Businesses, Instagram has replaced Word-Of-Mouth

by @Megan_Nicolett via @verge

Instagram is quickly becoming the best way for small businesses to expand their reach, even more so than word-of-mouth. What do you think?

5. TikTok Just Got Banned In India Over Fears It Is Exposing Children To Porn And Sexual Predators

by @PranavDixit via @BuzzFeed

TikTok just got banned in India (the Chinese social networking app’s largest market) by the Indian High Court, which claimed the app was exposing Indian children to pornography as well as to sexual predators. Google and Apple pulled TikTok from the Play and the App stores in the country in response to the High Court’s orders.
