Metter Media Social Report, April 29th, 2017

#MMSocialReport (3)

In this week’s #MMSocialReport — Instagram is Facebook, Twitter is TV, and the world is a good place thanks to Social Media.

1. Why Instagram Is Becoming Facebook’s Next Facebook

by @fmanjoo via @nytimes

Instagram is updating in a reckless and overconfident way that feels eerily similar to Facebook circa 2009-2012, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Over the past year, the app has seen a significant amount of updates —  a feed ranked by personalization algorithms rather than by chronology, live streaming,  the ability to post photo galleries, and a new app design and logo… Sound familiar?

2. Twitter plans to eventually air live video 24/7

by @etherington via @techcrunch

Twitter already plays host to a number of live events (election coverage, for example), but the social network aims to eventually air live video 24/7 via both the website and the app. What would you watch on Twitter?

3. Facebook’s Testing a New System to Dispel Fake News Before You Share it

by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day

Facebook is once again trying its hardest to get rid of fake news once and for all. Now, related articles will be displayed under the post in question before you click on the link, saving you from having to find out it’s fake from 500 of your friends and relatives.

4. How Social Media Saved One of the World’s Last Sumatran Rhinos

by @austa_clausen via @NatGeo

In a story guaranteed to brighten your day: Twitter saved a life!  The sad truth about Sumatran Rhinos is that there’s less than 100 left in the entire world. But Twitter did what it does best and connected people from all over the world to save Puntung — one of the 3 remaining Sumatran Rhinos left in Malaysia.

5. Google Fights Back Against ‘Fake News’ Appearing In Search Results

by @TheInfoMonkey via @ForbesTechNews

Google is joining the fight against fake news by adding some much needed features to the Search function. While Google has been mostly silent regarding the adjustments, there seems to be two main approaches: adjusting the algorithms and adding a direct feedback link to those objectionable posts.
