Hello media lovers! It’s Friday and in this week’s social report we explore the recent uprisings in the social media game of thrones: Instagram and Twitter are joining the Story-a-la-Snapchat bandwagon. Also a heads up on Facebook’s recent updates: new and improved options for live streaming and the option to choose which ads you see on your timeline 😳

No one could have predicted the amazing success Instagram has had with their newest story feature. Famous artists and celebrities (including snap king DJ Khaled) have said they actually prefer the Insta story to Snapchat; who would have thought? With this achievement comes two questions: how will Snapchat respond and how will Instagram maintain the attention?

2. Twitter opening up Moments for all to battle Snapchat, Instagram Stories

“Winter is coming” for Snapchat, as Instagram and Twitter rally against their content competitor and add “story” features to their platforms. We all know about Instagram stories, but Twitter Moments is unknown territory now that it’s being reworked to include posts from big-time users, and the feature will first only be available to companies and influencers it chooses to work with.

3. Facebook is going to ignore your ad blocker (but it’s not all bad news)

First, the bad news: Facebook is now ignoring user’s ad blockers. For the good news: The app will allow users to determine the ads they would like to see.  Although some can be annoying, they make Facebook a ton of money so there they will stay; however, getting the chance to hand-pick the ads that pop up on your homepage solves the issue users had with the annoying ads in the first place.

4. Facebook Announces New Options for Live – Both for Viewers and Broadcasters

By: @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day

Facebook Live keeps getting better. The newest update makes recording a whole lot easier for landscape orientation thanks to its new full-screen mode. In addition, users can also see people’s videos on the full horizontal screen without the comments section.  The #MMteam sees a very bright future for the new Facebook feature and we look forward to hearing what the next update will bring.
