#MeetMetter: Sierra Unsworth, Hospitality Division Director

Get to know Sierra Unsworth: queen of accounts, lover of all things glitter, and ultimate strategist here at Metter Media. Sierra joined us in 2016 and has been blowing us away with her incredible ideas and drive since. Get to know one of our long-standing leaders:

How did you get your start in social media?

I interned for a performing arts and entertainment company during my junior year of college and basically had free reign on their social. I ended up absolutely loving it and worked with them for three more years after my internship! My boss there knew Lauren from when she was writing at Dig Boston — she wrote a great review of one of their shows — and actually passed along the job opening post after seeing Lauren post it on Facebook.

When did you join Metter Media?

June 2016! Just had my three year anniversary. I started as an account manager and worked my way up to head account manager.

Why is social media important/relevant to your industry?

Nowadays, social media is the new Google. If you’re going out to eat, trying to find a cute local coffee shop, or looking for a hotel to stay at, there’s a good chance you’re going to search for their Instagram account and see not only what the business is posting, but what other people and customers are posting at that business as well. I know I’m totally guilty of this! If I can’t find a restaurant on Instagram or they haven’t posted in two years, I’m immediately skeptical. Having a strong online presence builds credibility and allows you to form relationships with your customers.

What campaigns have you helped create that make your clients stand out from the rest?

I’ve really loved working on Hotel Commonwealth’s #BeMoreBoston campaign. Once a week, we repost beautiful photos from local photographers (with proper credit, of course) that we find on Instagram to showcase the hotel’s love for and involvement in the city. One of our recent #BeMoreBoston posts brought in nearly 1,000 likes on Instagram! We’ve also been able to branch off this idea and create our own original content by live-covering local events like the Boston Marathon, Red Sox games, championship parades, and more.

What’s a typical day-in-the-life for you at Metter Media?

On the hospitality team, there really is no such thing. My schedule is different every single day — and that’s a big part of what I love about my job! If I were to generalize, I would say I’m usually working from home in the morning and then by about 11am, I’m heading out to different clients for a few afternoon meetings and photoshoots. We spend a lot of client-facing time!

What’s your #MMProTip?

Be authentic. Whether it’s a brand or your personal profile, people will see right through it if you’re trying to be something you’re not. Own who you are (or who your brand is) and stay true to it!

Proudest moment so far?

I’d say my proudest moment (a very long, ongoing moment) has been watching my team grow. Each of the individuals I work with has brought something different to the team and they’ve all grown their skills in so many ways. It’s nice to know that I (hopefully) have helped play a role in their growth!
