This week in social news: Snapchat now lets you create custom filters (with a hefty price tag), Facebook further capitalizes on its dominance in video content by allowing users to record “Happy Birthday!” videos, Twitter decides to revamp its timeline again, and more in this week’s #MMSocialReport round-up!

1. Snapchat Will Now Let You Create Custom Geofilters for That Party or Wedding

by @karissabe via @Mashable

Can’t find the perfect hashtag for your event? Snapchat is here to save the day. This week, the company announced it will incorporate customizable Snapchat filters for your event. However, before you begin to create a filter for every occasion and place you go to, this service is not free – depending on your geographical location and how your design looks, the cost could run between $5 to several thousand dollars.

2. New Facebook Video Feature Lets You Sing — Not Just Write — Happy Birthday

by @HeySamantha via @Mashable

Notice anything new when wishing someone “Happy Birthday!” on Facebook this past week? The social media company wants Facebook to become more personalized and has incorporated videos whenever it is someone’s birthday. Considering most users appreciate the birthday notification, Facebook is looking to create a deeper connection between friends and family through this new option, which allows users to record 15-second videos that can be shared on your friends’ timelines. By encouraging creativity, Facebook is moving away from its text-heavy timeline to capitalize on video-watching.

3. Telegram Now Lets You Edit Those Regrettable Late-Night Messages

by @kirstystyles1 via @thenextweb

Ever had to send a really important message, only to soon realize that you accidentally made a lot of typos? Telegram, a direct competitor to Slack, will now let you edit your message with the ease of a double tap on iOS. This messaging app is quickly changing the game by also incorporating supergroups, which allows you to chat with up to 1,000 people, and gives you the option to wake up everyone in your group if you’re sending late-night messages. Will Facebook soon follow this trend for its ever-evolving Messenger app?

Were you one of the few who actually enjoyed Twitter’s latest update? Starting March 3rd, your timeline is getting a makeover (again). According to Marketingland, Twitter is looking to incorporate new features within the timeline such as, “…[a] responsive design, [the ability to] automatically expand media (such as videos and GIFs) and integrate newer recently launched Twitter features, such as Twitter polls.”

5. Facebook Enhances Everyone’s Like With Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, Angry Buttons

After hearing all the complaints from the past decade, Facebook has finally decided to incorporate emojis in your likes after doing some testing in different countries. According to TechCrunch, “humanity has been down to six emotions,” including love, wow, haha, sad, angry, and the classic like. The article goes and reviews each emoji button by rating the best and worst aspects; however, there’s still no “dislike” button (which may upset some people).

Are you loving Facebook’s new like-emoji buttons? Excited or disgruntled with another Twitter timeline update? Let us know in your comments below!
