ICYMI: Peach is the newest social media app everyone is raving about, Snapchat just got a new important user (The White House!), your tweets can help a charity in need, and more news you might have missed in this week’s #MMSocialReport.

It’s official: Grandma’s on Snapchat! Once brushed aside as a teen phenomenon, Snapchat is now one of the top social media platforms to post original content. This past week, the Wall Street Journal joined Snapchat Discover, while the White House proved to be the coolest administration yet with its State of the Union story. Will you snap your grandmother this year? Let us know below in the comments.

2. Is Peach the Next Great Social Network? What You Need to Know.

We all know the peach emoji (thanks #Kimoji), but have you heard of Peach, the new social media app? It’s rise to fame within the past week has left users wondering what exactly it is and whether it will ascend to the greatness of all the other social media outlets. Definitely download it onto your iPhone (sorry Android users) to snag your username before it gets taken by someone else – the future of this app is unwritten, but your social media presence doesn’t have to be!

3. Tweet in the Name of Kindness and You Could Win a Charity Donation

Mashable partnered up with RetailMeNot to #SaveItForward this past holiday season, highlighting all your good deeds. For the best stories out in the Twittersphere, Mashable and RetailMeNot chose their favorite stories and donated $100 to the user’s preferred charity. Hopefully they’ll bring back this amazing campaign again in the New Year to help keep those #VolunteerMore resolutions in check.

4. White House Joins Snapchat, Seals Fate as Hippest Administration Ever

From Reddit AMAs to Snapchat, the Obama administration has officially been dubbed as the hippest administration ever by @HuffPostTech. It’s no secret that they’ve used social media to engage American citizens, from #AskPOTUS to setting up an official Facebook page, and to build on top of one of the most connected administrations ever, they began to broadcast a behind-the-scenes look at the State of the Union and all the prep work that went into it. I’m hoping they post puppy playdates between Bo and Sunny real soon.

5. Instagram Goes Beyond the Feed with Everyday Spotlight Compilations

Have you noticed anything different from your Instagram feed lately? In 2015, the app rolled out Spotlight videos for major holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. Now, it looks like the feature is here to stay for good – @techcrunch is reporting that the feature was so popular among users that the company is picking themes of the week to highlight, and will round up the best videos on the ‘gram to showcase to its users. Think of it as the answer to the Twitter Moments and Snapchat Live Stories, except this scrolls automatically for you.

Did you see anything interesting in social this week? Will you use Peach, and – gasp – add your grandmother to Snapchat? Let us know your thoughts and comments below!
