Metter Media’s Guide to Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday has always been about supporting and giving back to your community. And with the pandemic this year, supporting your community is more important than ever. To help give back to the Cambridge and Boston community this year, we’ve put together a list of some of the non-profit organizations that are near and dear to our hearts.

YWCA

In response to the outbreak, YWCA USA has launched the COVID-19 Relief and Community Resiliency Fund to provide emergency funds and in-kind support for COVID-19 preparedness, response, and recovery services, and to shore up critical housing, childcare, and domestic violence programs facing imminent risk of closure as a result of the pandemic. Consider donating today.

CCF

In response to the pandemic, the Cambridge Community Foundation created the COVID-19 Emergency Fund to address urgent needs in our community. As a Cambridge COVID-19 Emergency Fund donor, you could help arm this nonprofit and local nonprofit that fights food insecurity on the frontlines. All dollars donated to the emergency fund go to nonprofits that serve our most vulnerable residents.⁣ Donate here.

Rosie’s Place

Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Today, Rosie’s Place not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for 12,000 women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Because they do not accept any city, state, or federal funding, Rosie’s place relies on friends like you to help them support the women who need them now more than ever. Learn how your gift can help impact their work today.

Catie’s Closet

Kids have been through a lot this year. On Giving Tuesday YOU can make a difference in the life of a student. So many families have sunk deeper into poverty due to COVID-19, and most impacted by it all, children. In the midst of this pandemic, children continue to grow despite not having the means to purchase new clothing. Through love, support, trusting relationships, and consistent access to clothing and toiletries, Catie’s Closet lays the foundation for students’ big dreams. Donate today to make a difference in the lives of Boston Children.

CCTV

CCTV is a community media center where Cambridge residents and organizations create and share media about themselves and their community. CCTV relies on donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations to support our educational programs. Computer classes for seniors and job seekers, media training, and support for non-profits, technology training for our youth are all supported by generous individuals and the local business community. Food for Free

Food For Free improves access to healthy food within our community by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste and creating new distribution channels to under-served populations with an emphasis on utilizing school systems to reach those in need. They envision a future where everyone in our community – regardless of age, income, or ability – has consistent access to fresh, healthy, delicious food.

Boys and Girls Club of Boston

Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston works tirelessly to ensure all young people in our community have the opportunity to realize their full potential. Central to BGCB’s strategic vision is an outcomes-driven experience that helps members succeed academically, live healthy lifestyles and practice good citizenship.

Cambridge Center for Adult Education

CCAE provides high-quality, place based experiential education. Located on historic Brattle Street in Harvard Square, they welcome students from all walks of life to come together and create, explore, and grow in our wide-range of classes.

Cambridge School Volunteers

Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV), an independent non-profit founded in 1966, helps support the academic and personal success of Cambridge public school students.  CSV develops programs that match caring and competent volunteers with students of all needs and levels.

Cambridge Women’s Center

The mission of the Cambridge Women’s Center is to provide a supportive community space for all women by offering opportunities for empowerment, learning, healing, trauma support, and understanding.

Y2Y Homeless Shelter

Y2Y Network is building student-led programming to interrupt the cycle of homelessness for a generation of young adults. Y2Y Network employs a youth-to-youth model to provide a safe and affirming environment for young adults 18-24 experiencing homelessness. Y2Y guests have opportunities to collaborate with service providers, other youth experiencing homelessness, and student volunteers to create sustainable pathways out of homelessness and develop skills for long-term success.

These are just a few of the many amazing non-profit organizations in Cambridge & Boston. We encourage you to comment below with any additional orgs that you would like to shine a light on this giving season!
