#MMinspo: Covid-19 Social Media Ideas

As we now (hopefully) know, Facebook and Instagram have seen a 40% increase in usage due to COVID-19. Brands and businesses are taking this stat and ramping up their posting schedules, often relating their content to the situation at hand. This is the time for you to further engage your audience and connect with a new one — to form relationships that will last past this quarantine and could make all the difference when it comes too reopening or going back to business as usual.

Account Managers at Metter are constantly browsing social feeds for information and inspo, and we’ve been making it a point to save and share our favorite COVID-19 related social media posts with the team. These posts aren’t news and updates on the situation, but rather things like how to spend spare time, helpful advice, ways to keep positive, and what brands are doing to help. Here on the blog, we’ll be publishing a weekly roundup of these posts – read on for our first list, and check back every week for a new round.

1. Beverage company @takearecess makes a fun play on social distancing with an interactive carousel. This is a great idea for a relatable, tag-your-friend type of post.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. @pinkmantaray is sharing his top 4 self-care tips below – swipe to see them all! #rg #AExMECouncil ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “1) Keep a consistent sleep schedule. For me, sleep is one of the first things to dissolve when I have no external schedule. So right now I am focusing consistent sleep which helps provide some structure to my days. And good sleep is good for mental health! Note that “consistent” doesn’t have to be extremely rigid. I’m going to bed ~between~ 11pm and midnight, waking up ~around~ 8am. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2) EAT! I don’t care how much you are exercising or not! You need to nourish your body! I find it easy to forget to without work or structure, so right now I am often scheduling meals in my calendar. You could also cyber meal with someone if that helps! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3) Socialize however you can! Use technology to your benefit. Swipe for several cyber-date ideas! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4) Remember that none of us have done this before. It’s so okay (and normal and understandable) if you feel lost or confused or sad or angry. You are not alone in these feelings, I promise. Give yourself time to adjust. Be compassionate with yourself as you do.”

We’ve paused our ads. The world is in crisis. Frontline medical personnel are struggling. Small businesses are on the brink of collapse. Millions are without work, paid leave, or healthcare. Even giant conglomerates like our airlines are at the cusp of bankruptcy. Despite all this, consumer spending in nutrition and supplement products is increasing. Consumer anxiety around health tends to drive increased demand. Well-intentioned but misleading ‘immune-boosting’ content is circulating unhinged across media, newsletters, and Instagram. And on the more sinister side, the FDA and FTC have already issued warning letters to seven companies marketing items like teas, essential oils, and colloidal silver as “anti-coronavirus” treatments. We’ll say it here and we’ll say it loudly—there is currently no scientific evidence¹ that supplements will mitigate, prevent, treat, or cure COVID-19. And at a time like now, when misinformation is especially rampant and consumer vulnerability is high, the need for accountability is more urgent than ever. So, we’ve turned off paid advertising for our Daily Synbiotic and will continue to monitor—to avoid any human misinterpreting, misconstruing, or misunderstanding what they may or may not need for their health at this time. Instead, we’re putting money, resources, and energy towards the global effort: our supply chain team is tapping our international networks and partners to help source masks for hospitals and clinics, our operations team is working to mitigate any disruptions to our customers, and our marketing team, scientists, creatives, and writers are orienting around one of the most meaningful missions of our work—the ongoing translation, communication, education, and empowerment of science, and how it may best serve our community. We have some ideas we’ll be rolling out in the coming weeks, but we’d love to hear from you: what can we help you understand? What do you want to learn? How can we be the most helpful to you during this time? ____ ¹ There is ongoing (though not yet proven) scientific research on certain supplementation and risk-reduction, which we will break down in a future post.
