#MMSocialReport August 10, 2018

Some numbers are down, other numbers are up, and old friends are getting new faces—it’s this week’s Social Report!

1. Facebook Page Engagement Has Dropped 50%, According to New Data

by @amanda_zw via @Hubspot

In an analysis from social media experts, Hubspot has found that engagement on Facebook Pages has dropped by 50 percent! Luckily the company is readying a new design for pages to be launched by the end of the month, but page owners may want to study their insights to see who’s most effected, and how they can try to keep engagement high.

2. Snapchat Reports Decline in Users in Q2 Earnings Report

by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day

Last quarter, Snap reported having 191 million users, but it’s just-released earnings report dials that number slightly back to 188 million currently. The company says the cause is likely some controversial design changes that users are unhappy with, but the culprit could also be the launch of Facebook and Instagram stories, muddying the market somewhat. Still, the company also reported a 44% year-on-year revenue increase, so it’s not all bad news for Snap.

3.  The popular Musical.ly app has been rebranded as TikTok

by @dami_lee via @verge

Remember that one Ke$ha song? ByteDance, the Chinese company who owns the app formerly known as Musical.ly, certainly do, and they must love it so much that they decided to rename their app to TikTok. The app will remain the same user-recorded music videos its always had, and all users accounts will be migrated over, so nothing to worry about.

4. It’s over: Tinder won the dating wars. Swipe or stay home

by @fruhlinger via @DigitalTrends

Wondering why you aren’t finding many matches on OkCupid anymore? According to statistics found through Facebook’s login API, Tinder is the most-used app on the service, even beating out Spotify and Candy Crush Saga. Interestingly, the dating app required users to connect a Facebook account until recently, possibly leading to an inflated attachment rate for Facebook logins.

5. Facebook Dating Will Be a Feature, Not Just an App

by @joshconstine via @techcrunch

Sick of downloading more apps dedicated to Facebook? Luckily the social media giant is empathetic about the limited storage on your phone. They’re integrating their upcoming dating feature into the existing app, instead of making you get another one. Maybe now when you update your relationship status, people can just tab over to dating and ask you out, instead of creeping into your DMs.
