#MMSocialReport March 8, 2019

Tune in to this week’s roundup to see how JetBlue is daring insta addicts, what Pinterest has done to expand business possibilities, how to unlock Facebook’s new super secret dark mode, and, well… something involving cheese. Yes, that’s right folks — CHEESE. Sorry, we don’t have any Jane the Virgin spoilers for you.

1. TikTok gets fined $5.7 million for collecting children’s data, announces new kid-friendly version

by @jmorse_ via @mashable

TikTok is being slammed with a 5.7 million civil penalty for illegally collecting data from children under the age of 13 without obtaining parental consent. Yikes. In order to combat the heat they’re currently taking, TikTok announced its plans to create a seperate app experience geared towards younger users.

2. Google and Twitter lock accounts of artist for having same name as Meghan Trainor

by @JonPorty via @verge

Having the same name as a celebrity is not as cool as it might seem — especially when Google and Twitter get involved… Confused? Well, together Google and Twitter incorrectly concluded a woman named Meghan Trainor (yes, think “All About That Bass”) was trying to impersonate her Pop Star namesake and locked her out of her social media accounts last week. Whoops…

3. JetBlue contest dares Instagram addicts to delete their pics to fly free for a year

by @nattgarun via @verge

JetBlue is conducting … well … a social experiment, asking the fiercest of Instagram addicts to delete their pics, and we are SHOOK! Would you delete your favorite content for an opportunity to fly free for a year?

4. Pinterest Adds more Ways for Businesses to share and promote their products

by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day

Pinterest has been stepping up their features game by adding some new innovative experiences that allow businesses to promote their products more easily. Pinterest continues to go in the sales direction, and we are excited to see if the app can become a must have business platform or if it will remain solely a fun lifestyle hobby for its users.

5. Facebook Messenger app gets a secret ‘dark mode’ – here’s how to enable it

by @slambrechts via @techradar

Feeling edgy? We have the perfect thing for you. Facebook is introducing its new ‘Dark Mode’ for Messenger. The catch is it’s a hidden function behind an in-app emoji trick. To check if this function is available, enter chat settings, change the chat emoji to the moon image, and then send the moon emoji as a message.

MM’s Pick of the Week!

Parents have started throwing cheese at their children, and it’s hilarious! This new challenge frenzy has taken social media by storm, and we are hoping that all the children like cheese as much as this cutie does.
