#MMSocialReport September 28, 2018

Mark Zuckerberg is making big changes to Facebook, Instagram notifications are going to be more addictive, and shopping just got easier on Snapchat. Oh, the social media rabbit hole. Keep reading to find out what stays and what goes in this week’s social report:

1. Facebook Expands Video Ad Breaks to More Regions

by @adhutchinson via @Socialmedia2day

Are you annoyed by video ad breaks in Facebook videos? Well, Facebook just announced an expansion of ad breaks to publishers long-form video content in several countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin and South America. NOTE: to qualify for video ad breaks, Facebook requires specific eligibility criteria.

2. Instagram gets browser notification support

by @JonPorty via @TheVerge

You can now be more up-to-date than ever as Instagram introduces a notification system for browsers. So far, the system will work on Google Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, allowing users to grant permission to receive notifications on their computers just as they would on their phones.

3. Facebook Pages can now join Facebook Groups

by @mattbinder via @mashable

Facebook gives users a little more wiggle room now that pages can join Facebook groups. This will allow for much easier interaction between businesses, events, and everyday users. Cheers for accessibility!

4. How Facebook could screw up Instagram

by @Fromedome via @Recode

With Instagram’s original founders gone, the future of Instagram remains in question… and in the hands of Facebook. Many fear that Instagram will lose a lot of its better qualities and become a more Facebook-like version of itself. Only time will tell what will happen between these two oligarchies of social media.

5. Snapchat Adds News Amazon eCommerce Integration, Facilitating Shopping In-App

by @adhutchinson via @Socialmedia2day

Along with many other social platforms, Snapchat will add an eCommerce feature to the app. The new partnership with Amazon will let users shop by hovering the Snapchat camera over the physical product while pressing and holding on the screen. Now, let’s go shopping!

MM’s Pick of the Week!

I bet you haven’t seen anything like this before. A few friends in New Zealand out for a fun day on the water get a hysterically slimy surprise. A seemingly friendly seal clocks one of the fellow kayakers right in the face- with an octopus. That’s right, no typo. This man got hit in the face by a seal, via octopus. Really makes you think.
