#MMSocialReport September 14, 2018

Fall is rapidly approaching and OH, how social media platforms are changing their features by the second! Let’s dive in and see what they are up to.

1. Instagram May Soon Let You Tag Friends In Videos

by @Sarahintampa via @TechCrunch

Have you ever wished you didn’t have to tag your friends in the comments of your Instagram video posts? Finally, Instagram is in the process of testing a video tagging feature available on mobile phones similar to tagging photos. Keep an eye out for the new feature that will make it easier for you to share videos.

2.  Facebook Can Now Understand Text in Images, Advancing Image Recognition Capacity

by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day

Facebook’s image recognition technology has become more advanced. Facebook has been making strides by being able to have image content be searchable even if the content isn’t tagged. Now, Facebook can “read” text that appears in images as well. The next stage? Video searching.

3. Twitter launches audio-only broadcasting feature on its iOS app and Periscope

by @Sarahintampa  via @TechCrunch

Have you ever been camera shy but wanted to broadcast your voice? Twitter and Periscope now have an audio-only broadcast option. Just click the “Live” button in your mobile app, select enable audio only, and get started.

4. How Instagram’s verification rollout will impact social media influencers

by @LaurenJMeltzer via @ABC

The new verification rollout on Instagram will make it easier for social media influencers to earn the coveted checkmark of approval on their account. Now users can submit a request through the app to be verified, which will make it easier for social media influencers to get approved. A blue badge will change the game for social influencers, since they will stick out on the app and likely persuade more people into buying the products they advertise.

5. Snapchat Launches New Program Which Will Enable Publishers to Source User-Generated Content

by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day

Just when you thought that Snapchat was dying—Snap is now partnering with more than 20 news publishers in order to enable them to create their own curated Stories to be merged into a cohesive narrative. This is a turn away from their old image of “TV for teens,” in which the aforementioned younger audiences are the ones keeping Snapchat alive.
